QC Manual Template

Download and use this template as a starting point for developing your plant’s In-Plant Quality Control Manual.

NOTE:  This Quality Control (QC) Manual Template is provided by the Truss Plate Institute (TPI) to assist metal-plate-connected wood truss manufacturing plants in creating a plant-specific QC manual.  The language provided in this document should be reviewed by the plant and modified or eliminated as appropriate to meet the plant’s specific needs.  The listed sections are recommended minimum topics to be addressed by a QC manual, but they can be rearranged or combined as deemed appropriate by the plant.  If a particular section is deemed to be not applicable, it is recommended that the section title remain and a note such as “not applicable” be added in lieu of eliminating the section.

Criteria contained in this guide are based on the Acceptance Criteria for Quality Documentation (AC10). It is the responsibility of the user to customize this template to align with their specific in-plant quality control (QC) process. Additional information may be necessary depending on the individual truss plant. Thoroughly review the material and make any necessary modifications to meet your plant's unique requirements. Users of this template are accountable for the final content of the QC manual and assume all associated liability.

Truss Inspection Form

Download and use this form to perform individual truss inspections. You can also order convenient pads of this form at the TPI Webstore.

Truss inspections should encompass a "Preliminary Inspection" (Part I), which entails thoroughly reviewing both faces of the truss for the six items specified on the inspection form. Any discrepancies discovered should be duly recorded and rectified prior to shipping. Furthermore, the inspection process should encompass a "Detailed Joint Inspection" (Part II), which involves identifying the Critical Joints on the inspected truss and evaluating the placement and embedment of the connector plates at said Critical Joints. This evaluation should be conducted using Joint Details provided by the connector plate provider or through alternative means. Each inspection should be signed by the inspector and filed alongside the weekly inspection reports for management and potential third-party review. For further information, please refer to ANSI/TPI 1, Chapter 3.

Weekly Log Form

Download and use this form to document your weekly truss inspections. You can also order convenient pads of this form at the TPI Webstore.

Utilize this weekly log sheet to document all inspections conducted throughout the week for all setup locations and shifts. This log sheet serves as a means to ensure that the required number of inspections are being carried out each week. Per ANSI/TPI-1, a minimum of three inspections must be conducted per week, per setup location, per shift. Additionally, it is required to inspect at least one Critical Joint on average for all trusses inspected. For further information, refer to Chapter 3 of the ANSI/TPI 1.
