Frame 3 (shown here) gives top chord temporary bracing requirements for pitched trusses (top) and for scissors trusses (bottom).

Truss top chords are susceptible to lateral buckling before they are braced or before the sheathing is applied. Lateral bracing in the top chord plane must be used in conjunction with diagonal bracing to be effective.

All lateral braces should be lapped at least 2 trusses. Diagonal braces should be installed between the lateral braces at about 45 degrees to the laterals.

View photos depicting trusses properly installed with temporary bracing per HIB-91.

Temporary bracing should be removed with care and the permanent roofing material installed immediately as the temporary bracing is removed.
